Microsoft Word 2003: Reading Layout

When you open a Microsoft Word document that you have received as an email attachment, Word 2003 automatically presents it to you in Reading Layout view.

This view displays your document like the pages of a book. The pages are designed to fit well on your screen — and text is automatically displayed using Microsoft ClearType technology,

which makes the document more legible. Here is an example of the Reading Layout view.

When you open a document in Reading Layout view, a Reading Layout toolbar appears at the top of the screen. To switch from the Reading Layout view to the normal Word view, click on the toolbar's

Close button, press Esc, or press ALT-C. To switch back to the Reading Layout view, press ALT-R or click on the Standard toolbar's

Read button.

If you want to turn off Reading Layout view for e-mail attachments on a permanent basis, do the following:

Within Word, choose the Tools, Options menu command.
Select the General Tab.
Clear the Allow starting in Reading Layout checkbox.
Click OK.

  1. You have explained this feature very well. I think most of the people are aware of this feature as it is commonly used. On the other hand for those who are not aware of it this post is perfect for them to learn. Have a look.
